"The Last Airbender" Casting Revealed[link]
After months of dreading that either Hillary Duff or next available pop actress of similar stature would take on the role of Katara, I'm very pleased to see that didn't happen.
At least not to Katara.
It looks like they pulled a pre-movie Shyamalan twist on us and cast a pop idol as Zuko instead. Say hello to... Jesse McCartney???
While I'm surprised and honestly disappointed over what seems to be a total lack of ethnic casting (Aang Actor Noah Ringer's still unknown personage notwithstanding) I will say I suppose Jackson Rathbone does at least look a little bit like the illustration of Sokka if not the real-world mental image of a person of Inuit heritage that I've been carrying.
What think ye? These kinds of announcements always bring jeers and cheers in fandoms. I suppose we have no choice but to wait and reserve final judgment on release day. Though if we get a promotional music video for the film with Zuko singing all sultry against a white gradient backdrop, I fear loosing more than a little faith. LOL

I can't help but think I handled the whole Jesse McCartney thing a little immaturely. It's just I can't stand that he may be/is playing the role of my favorite character, not to mention the character with the most complex personality. I really hope he proves me wrong...
To quote Jessie, "I don't want another pretty face..."
And Kevin, try this...give him black hair, throw a scar over his eye, and give him a really pissy expression (i.e. work your photoshop magic). I think he could look that part very nicely. All-in-all, not my first choice by far, but certainly one that I won't throw out out of hand.
Though I will admit to a large amount of disappointment with the lack of Asian actors cast. We can only hope they wise up for characters like Iroh, Ozai, and Long Feng when the time comes.
