SDCC 09 Avatar Autograph Session & Documentary

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 25, 2009, 7:55 AM
I've been asked to help relay some cool info courtesy of Mike and Bryan for all Avatar fans who'll be attending San Diego Comic Con...

"Mike and I are excited to announce we will be doing a signing at this year's San Diego Comic Con, currently scheduled for 4:00 - 6:00 on Saturday afternoon, July 25.

We will be filming a documentary on the making of the television series, and we'll be taping our interactions with people while they get their new ATLA SDCC '09 posters signed (which I am drawing right now!). The producers of the documentary will be pulling certain people who make a great impression aside to film "testimonials" about what the series has meant to each of them. Also, we'd love to film people in their best "Avatar" costumes, new or old, earlier in the day on Saturday.

We're not sure if there is already a cosplay gathering planned, but it would behoove us greatly if people could gather at a specific time and place on Saturday, dressed to impress! Bring your favorite fan art, puppets, whatever you want to show to the documentary crew. Thanks! See you in San Diego!
–Bryan"

For those of us who already have secured SDCC passes, this is awesome news! For those that don't, I know it's going to be frustrating since the convention is currently sold out. HOWEVER- SDCC has announced that as requests for refunds come in, they will be making those passes available again. Keep watching their website for announcements on when those refund passes will go on sale:

So again, here's how Saturday's events are going to go:

-There will be a ticket draw for autographs (save the complaints- that's how it rolls at SDCC) which is currently scheduled to be at 10am Saturday July 25th. If you were at the ticket draw last year, you may remember how long some fans needed to stick around till they drew a winning ticket, so budget your arrival time accordingly.

-After that, the cosplay meet up is once again being organized by :iconsockaichan: Sockai-Chan and for purposes of the documentary filming and the ticket draw, is currently being scheduled 12pm that day.

Cosplay meet-up:

Date: Saturday July 25th
Time: 12 noon
Place: Across from Ballroom 20D

The autograph sessions will then be held after the meet-up. Exact location is still to be determined, but my bet is it'll be somewhere in the dealers room- Most likely the Nickelodeon booth.

*Please check back either here or with Ethereal-Glutton's :iconethereal-glutton: journal to confirm the cosplay meet up times often. It may change if it conflicts with the time fans need to line up for autograph tickets and if so, we'll post the updates.

ALSO- we would like to echo something Bryan mentioned in his announcement. The documentary's focus is the original animated series. This is an opportunity to go deeper into the creative process behind Avatar, and celebrate the series through the creators eyes and those of many of the fans. Their presence at SDCC this year focuses on this documentary, and NOT the Live Action Film.

It's our understanding that some fans hoped to protest the casting of Last Airbender at SDCC. We kindly ask that those passionate fans please refrain from protesting during all the filming surrounding this documentary and the autograph session. Mike and Bryan have absolutely nothing to do with the casting. Let's not hinder efforts to bring more content to the fans that has nothing to do with the matter of protest. This is an opportunity to go back to the fandom roots of the show and enjoy what the series has meant to us.

Good luck to everyone hoping to make it out to San Diego this Summer!

Imperial Cruisers sighted- And a cool Tat-too!

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 24, 2009, 9:17 AM
Fire Nation warships?

Or Republic Cruiser?

YOU decide. ;)

Before anyone jumps all over me let say I really like the look of the Air Temple.

UPDATE 6/24:
I just got to see a high res 1280p HD version of the trailer thanks to :iconbanishedprince: and the link in her journal here: [link]

I really like the detail of the Fire Nation soldiers scaling the cliff walls- A detail that's lost if YouTube is the only place you've seen this teaser.

Plus, I do admit I didn't know what to think about the new arrow tattoo designs at first, but seeing them in hi-res now has won me over:

It remains to be seen if does still glow blue when in the Avatar state, but I do really like the design now. Especially the repeating levels of arrows which seem to suggest how he's earned them over time, bit by bit.

Don't Blink - Short Airbender Clips on ET

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 20, 2009, 6:04 PM
Hey all, check out the new Narnia... Er I mean Last Airbender logo shown on Entertainment Tonight:

You can see it along with some millisecond length clips on Youtube here: [link]

You'll have wait until all the beastly-awful clips from "Beastly" are over though. I don't know why they gave another Twilight wannabe the majority of that preview. After all I'm sure Noah Ringer could totally kick Vanessa Hudgens' rear any day.

Avatar Portal.com Interviews Puppetbenders

Journal Entry: Sun May 31, 2009, 8:20 PM
Okay actually they just interview the people who make the puppetbenders move their mouths. Which is a bit of a shame since Puppet Zuko would have had a lot of really embarrassing and incriminating things to say about us...

Earlier this month after the fan panel we helped host at Anime Central, Collin Henderson from TheAvatarPortal.org interviewed me and my puppet crew at the outdoor photo shoot.

He asked some good, tough questions such as how to turn the American economy around in an ever-expanding global marketplace? Which party has a better standing in the debate over global warming? And of course, why do bad things happen to good people?

I was unable to answer any of those questions with the even slightest level of satisfactory competency. So he switched to asking about making our stupid puppet films and I think it went a lot smoother. I certainly found myself sweating less.

So for those interested here you go: [link]

-THRILL at the puppets as they hang limply from our craned arms!

-Be SHOCKED by Collin's and Kevin's matching sideburns!

-Be MESMERIZED as Jake begins to get arm cramps holding up two puppets at once!

-Sigh in RELIEF as Diana saves me from having expound more on the touchy subject of the live action movie!

-Stand in AWE as Joe stands unintentionally hidden behind us!

A big thanks to Collin for a fun interview and everyone who made the event a great time, especially those who shouted "BYE" to everyone right in the middle. :D
