I actually had the opportunity to read the shooting script before I saw the film. It contained all the cut scenes like the Kyoshi warrior stuff, etc. I can't say in my opinion it would have been any better with that material left in. Even without the terrible acting, the writing and story structure was still just as quick & choppy as the theatrical cut. Katara still made her annoying "Twitter-Update" style voice overs. Scenes still consisted of the barest form of unnecessary expiratory dialogue. The worst offender of them all- the firebenders still couldn't bend fire unless it was right in front of them.
The right elements for telling the story well just weren't there to start with from what I read. What was filmed simply reflected what wasn't there to start with in a fundamentally flawed script.
That said, I do wish everyone all the best in the petition though. I'd be interested in seeing the cut scenes out of morbid curiosity myself. Though more as special features rather than a re-cut.
